Harrogate Homeless housing services in North Yorkshire

Churches partnering together created the Harrogate Homeless Project. The aim is to help the homeless and low income individuals overcome any housing problems they are faced with. The organisation operates as a charity and focuses on people that are sleeping rough as well as the vulnerable.

Most of the advice and services are available at their drop in centre as well as a hostel, and this is where clients can learn about rent and deposit schemes in North Yorkshire. The project and the volunteer staff at the locations work with individuals to help them move into new, affordable accommodations. They will also arrange ongoing support so the person will achieve independent living in the area.

Accommodations at the hostel

The hostel is a smaller facility and it is located on Bower Street. It is also part of the North Yorkshire and nationwide No Second Out scheme.  Not only will an individual have a place to stay so they are not on the streets, but they will also have access to practical support services, including food, clothing, and training. In order to make this happen, they rely on partnerships with other charities, landlord and councils in the area as well. Note the hostel is very small and can only house about 15 people. For more information, the address is 7 Bower Street, HG1 5BQ.

The guests in the hostel will be able to partner with a Key Worker from the Harrogate Homeless Project. They will work together towards independent living,, which covers many different needs.

They will explore different job training programmes in the North Yorkshire area. In addition, the charity has information on rental deposit schemes that may be applied to when the individual is ready to move on from the hostel site. Key workers from the Project have partnerships with landlords of both private and social housing that also accept bond guarantees in lieu of a cash deposit, and they can rely on those relationships as part of the resettlement process.

The individual’s who stay at the hostel will be giving their own bedroom to live in. However there are some shared facilities on site, such as an office, kitchen, reception room or toilets. While a referrals from a local council or not-for-profit organization is normally needed, self-referrals can be used too.

Rough sleepers in Harrogate will go through an assessment process as part of the scheme. Based on the results of this, they may be resettled into an emergency shelter. Then, when the Harrogate Homeless Project hostel is available, they may be moved into that. Or the homeless individual will get help in applying for deposits or government housing benefits. The aim is to get them into housing and off of the streets.

Information on deposit schemes and tenant support at the Harrogate centre

A day Service and advice centre is available too at Wesley House, Oxford Street, Harrogate, HG1 1PP. This is for the vulnerable to use. Many homeless people also stop by. They may be provided a hot meal, clothing, or laundry service. However, a key aim of the day centre is to provide advice.

Specialists from Harrogate Homeless Project will offer information on homeless issue and refer them to programmes and financial aid. This can include a combination of rent deposit schemes, job training classes, and computer access. Other services for housing needs includes legal aid for family matters and tenant support. Support is also provided by free meals from Churches Together. The charity does also rely on donations and partners for its funding, so please contribute if you can.

Other tenant support services from the day centre focus on resettling the homeless or residents that need more affordable housing. So specialists work with councils in cities across North Yorkshire in an effort to find accommodations in the local rented sector. There are also some bond deposit schemes available either for a rent in advance or security deposit on a new flat. So these services are also effective in helping the vulnerable.

Harrogate Homeless Project aims to provide multifaceted support to homeless and vulnerably housed people who are connected to the area and help them to move on to independent living. Information on addresses and phone numbers is above. However, the main office is at 7 Bower Street, Harrogate, HG1 5BQ, Telephone 01423 566800. Call the charity for referrals.
