Rent deposit help in Barnet Borough

There are government schemes and charities that offer help with paying housing costs for the low income in the Barnet Borough. Several of the agencies that offer rent deposit help are charities. But there are also government schemes for housing, and most of that help is from Barnet Homes which is offered by the council.

Where to get rent deposit help from a charity

There are six main charities that offer housing assistance in the Barnet Borough. Some only provide shelter (with linkage to rent deposit help) while others offer bonds, loans, or guarantees to landlords in the private sector. These are all charities though, which means funds can be even more limited. They will each have their own application process in order to get help with paying a rent deposit in the private sector.

Ashford Place is for anyone over the age of 18. All sorts of support is given, including for mental health issues, employment, counseling, GP and more. They help the homeless raise the money for paying a deposit through employment, refer to shelters, and help with applications to either Barnet Homes (council housing) or a charity rent deposit schemes. Anyone that can’t qualify for council housing from Barnet homes can turn to St Mungo’s Broadway. The charity partners with the council on offer help for paying first months rent and/or deposits in the private sector. In fact, up to 4 weeks of rent may be paid by the charity.

Note only will they guarantee the cost of housing, but they also help clients locate a safe and affordable home (or flat) to move into. As St Mungo’s Broadway partners with landlords in the private sector all across both London and the Barnet Borough. Novus Homeshare is shared housing. Instead of needing to pay a rent deposit, a family or individual can share a room with a property owner. This gives them time to save money, pay down debts, allows time to apply for rent deposit schemes, and locate solutions. Some charities focus on refugees or individuals from certain countries. One example is Persian Advice Bureau which is for Persinans. They will help people from that country manage their money, locate and pay for housing (including rent deposits), assist with legal needs, benefits and more. Immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers (no matter where from) can turn to Barnet Refugee Service. They partner with agencies all across the UK. Homeless Action in Barnet is also a partner of the council. They offer assistance with rent deposit, shelter, and other help for the homeless or low income. Barnet Homes (see below) works in partnership with Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB) to provide housing assistance to people that Barnet Homes is unable to help. HAB is funded by Barnet Council. Government and Barnet council schemes

There are two organisations to turn to for help, whether with rent deposit, debts, or even the Local Housing Allowance (LHA). Though most of the aid is offered directly by the charities above.
