Northamptonshire schemes help with rent deposits

Both low income as well as homeless residents of Northamptonshire may be able to receive help with rent in advance or deposit expenses for private sector properties. Most of the councils have housing option teams on site that can provide both advice and applications to schemes. Another option is to call upon one of the charity organisations in the region, as they too offer housing assistance such as short term shelters.

Most of the deposit help is available in the form of bond guarantees issued by councils. This will require both the tenant as well as the Northamptonshire landlord to agree to the programme terms, and if they do, the bond will cover any future damage to the property. Councils may also be able to help families on a low income apply for other support, such as benefits, and these programmes will come with various conditions.

The main organisations to call upon in the Northamptonshire County area are below. Whether it is a charity or council office, there are staff that work to prevent homelessness for the vulnerable.

Jon McNamara says:

I want to move from Derby to Nottingham as the flat that I live in is one room and the area is bad as my mailbox gets broken into. I want to move to Nottingham as that’s where all my family and friends are and all the support I need, but I need money for the deposit. I’ve rang the local Northamptonshire council and they say I can’t get help with a rent deposit as I’m not faced with homelessness. Now my landlord is collecting my keys as I have not been staying at my flat as I don’t like the area. What can I do?
