Rushcliffe Borough help with deposit payments

Extra payments can be provided for deposits in the Rushcliffe Borough using central government funding. The council uses funds that are available from the same programme that pays future rent, known as DHP. This scheme for a deposit payment is available for a small number of applications and the authorities will decide who is assisted.

One of the key criteria is that the applicant needs to be claiming a housing benefit. This is required at the Rushcliffe Council needs to be confident that the family or individual on a low income can pay future costs on their own. There is no reason to help with the payment of a damage deposit if the person will just be evicted again in a few months.

To get more information on how to apply, there is a customer support team at the Rushcliffe Contact Centre, and the number to ring is 01159819911. The authorities can send a form in the post so the family will receive it at their current address. Or another option is that a person can drop in at the main council office, and that address is below.

Rent deposits costs covered by the Rushcliffe Borough

Not only will the scheme pay for a damage deposit that is within their criteria, but funds can also be used to pay for a portion of rent in advance on the private sector home. This form of assistance will not pay for any other costs, and the applicant needs to have a source of income or be on the Local Housing Allowance to enroll.

A decision will be made by the Housing Team in Rushcliffe as to whether they will help or not. A full assessment and interview will be done as part of this decision process. The council will need to review savings, income, whether the applicant has other debts they owe, and they also need to have no other way to get help. So if the applicant has friends of family that can help them, or if they just need to manage their money better, then the scheme will not help with the rent deposit.

All of the funds will only be for deposits on private sector housing. This scheme is not for other types of property in the borough. The client will also need to take steps to right their financial condition by doing things such as maximising their income or budgeting. The Rushcliffe Borough CAB partners with the authorities on offering this ongoing tenancy support.

The scheme is limited. If approved, the amount of assistance provided for the deposit will depend on the applicant circumstances, and each case is reviewed on merit. There is also a maximum amount provided, and that is the authorities will not pay more than the monthly rent. There are no guarantees to a tenant receiving a payment.

There are also some applicants that are given priority over others. The council does this to try to prevent homelessness for the most vulnerable. There are people in Rushcliffe that have a disability, or maybe they are refugees that are new to the borough. If they meet other eligibility criteria, they may be given priority for deposit help. Others that may be assisted before others are youth or senior citizens.

For more information, the main office is at Rectory Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 6BN. The customer support team can also be phoned at 01159819911.
