There have been scores of people that have stated they were contacted by representatives who claimed they were from Wonga. They use emails to initiate this type of communication. Some of the fraudsters are even contacting potential borrowers using SMSes.

The requests for information are not coming from Wonga. Instead it turned out that they were really from other high priced lenders or even loan shark type companies. However Wonga will work with the impacted customer to try to clear their name and restore credit if if has been impacted.

In the UK, people can always report it to their bank or contact the Financial Ombudsman Service. These different approaches may be able to help the consumer fix any identify theft issues. Or if there credit has impacted, the bank may be able to fix it.
