Course fees paid by Thomas Wall Trust grants

The Thomas Wall Trust is a national supportive charity that provides grants to potential students. Those who need help paying for educational courses can request grants of up to £1,000.

What is offered?

Grants are provided to selected applicants to pay for certain educational costs. These costs may include tuition, fees, equipment and other expenses that are deemed to be necessary for the applicant.

The Trust is not expected to be a major scholarship provider for those at university. Instead, the purpose is to help those who need additional coursework to better their career. Perhaps an accounting course or a language class could help open up new employment options. The Thomas Wall Trust can help to pay for this coursework.

In some limited cases, grants exceeding £1,000 are approved. Most grants are for less than that amount.

Who is eligible?

Applicants aged at least 16 years who are experiencing difficult in obtaining a job may pursue a grant through the Trust. A lack or necessary skills that is keeping someone out of the job market may be addressed through a one-off grant by the organisation.

Each applicant must present a compelling reason for approval of their grant request. Any barriers to proper study can be expressed which may strengthen the application. Illness, life events and other obstacles encountered are generally necessary to prove that additional support is warranted. Denied requests for other sources of financing should be disclosed as well since this demonstrates increased need.

Lower income applicants are the focus of this grant programme. Those earning more than £26,000 annually will find it difficult to qualify. Finally, an application should state why the requested courses would help make the person qualified for work. The goal is to increase employability of each grantee.

How to apply

Applications are only accepted through the Trust’s website. All applicants are asked to follow the steps to request funding of their educational goals:

  • Create an account on the Trust’s website.
  • Confirm registration through email received.
  • Complete prescreening questionnaire.
  • Download and complete the application form received via email.
  • Upload the completed application form.

The Trust will notify applicants of any updates by email. Some applicants may need to respond to further questions or provide clarification of details about their situation or application. Awards are announced via email.

The Grants Administrator generally approves about 10% of applications for funding. A successful application will include all of the necessary information as well as present a strong case for need. Potential students who have experienced hardship that has prevented the achievement of career and educational goals are frequently favoured in the approval process.

This is just one of many possible sources of funding for a potential student seeking a grant. Funding for the Trust was provided by Thomas Wall II in 1920.
