Peasholme Centre Resettlement and housing services

Services from the Resettlement Centre in York are for individuals on a low income. The City of York Council partners with the Peasholme charity to provide this help to the homeless or people that need to move into new, affordable accommodations. Clients will be provided bonds or rent deposits schemes, job training, advice, and other services.

The Peasholme Resettlement Centre is only for individuals with a connection to York. Priority is for single women, children, as well as couple without children from the district. The city council will also arrange housing and support for substance misusers. There is limited space in the hostel and centre, so some people will need to be referred to other programmes.

All clients need to be seeking more stable and independent housing. There can be services for the homeless as well as rough sleepers in York. Other people may be on the verge of homelessness. All customers need to agree to participate in support programmes, such as classes on job training, attend education rooms and agree to services such as income maximisation. The hostel can also help the disabled and provide all clients with free counseling. The aim of the case workers at the resettlement centre is to help people gain independence.

Housing advice, development, and support is provided as part of resettlement. The aim is to develop the skills for the vulnerable or those on a low income, including employment. Referrals are needed for this. Customers will go through a key work process that address the root cause of the housing problems.

After stability and employment has been achieved, the resettlement services will address applications to benefits, private deposit schemes, food, health and wellbeing, and ongoing tenancy rights. These types of funds are only available from the Peasholme charity for people with no other means to pay a deposit on their own.

People with a history of substance misuse and homelessness can get assistance from the Melbourne Project, which is also run by the centre. There is shared accommodation available to clients. During their stay, they will need to attend workshops provided by social workers.

This will also lead to other housing services, with an aim of helping substance misusers that are threatened with homelessness. What may be provided to them is the resettlement services above and ongoing advice. As the customer meets goals, the specialists at the Peasholme Resettlement Centre will help clients apply for support such as deposit schemes or a government housing allowance. This is done so the customer can move into their own flat and live independently.
