Late rent payment assistance in North West Leicestershire

Tenants living near Coalville and Ashby-de-la-Zouch who are falling behind on their rent are served by several entities that can prevent the negative consequences of an eviction. These eviction prevention measures ensure that adequate protections against homelessness are in place.

Citizens Advice Bureau

The local CAB the best source of comprehensive money advice and financial aid. Local tenants who were unable to afford rent have successfully received help as a result of their counselling session. These locations are in place for local appointments. Call 0844 417 1025, or mobile users may call 0300 330 1025.

  • Ashby Outreach is a satellite office of Leicestershire Citizens Advice Bureau. Counsellors are based in the Legion House on South Street.
  • Leicestershire Citizens Advice Bureau also maintains a Coalville location within the Leicestershire Council offices.

North West Leicestershire District Council

The Council provides eviction intervention services for local tenants who are threatened with homelessness. This is a one-stop-shop for dealing with rental arrears.

For situations where more time is needed to come up with the rent, Council officials can work to negotiate an arrangement with landlords and housing associations. Since mediation can resolve many temporary situations, it is generally the most favourable outcome for dealing with minor delinquencies.

More substantial aid may require applying for grant funds through charitable organisations. The Council’s Housing Choices Team can also apply for direct grant funding on behalf of a household using Council letterhead. This referral is a requirement for some grants in which trustees do not accept unsolicited applications on behalf of individuals directly.

In situations where the rent is unaffordable based on current income, a transition to a cheaper home may be advised. Such moves can be difficult under a tight budget. The Council’s Rent Deposit Scheme can fulfill the cash requirements of such a move when no funds are available from the tenant.

To get help with high rent, tenants may contact the Housing Choices Team at 0800 952 0079. The Team can help with evictions caused by skipped rent or tenancy lease end.

North West Leicestershire Homeless Project

One charity that is closely tied to the Council is the North West Leicestershire Homeless Project. This organisation provides two primary services.

First, stability of the living situation must be ensured. Emergency housing can be provided by providing a match to a donor within the Council footprint. Some donors agree to provide temporary lodging through a room, flat or some other accommodation.

Second, the Homeless Project works to find a permanent solution to the housing need. Resources are coordinated to make sure that a tenant can be placed into a permanent home. Call 01530 510515 to speak with a charity representative, or visit them at the Marlene Reid Centre where they share space with MRC Community Action.
