Local and national not for profits and charities that offer help with debt

There are two main places to go. There are only debt centres in some towns and cities in the UK, such as London, Birmingham, Northern Ireland, Manchester, Glasgow and other major cities. The small towns and boroughs tend to not have these local charities. But borrowers can try churches or the Salvation Army charity organisations for debt help schemes.

Churches are sometimes part of CAP, or Christian Against Poverty. They offer free advice from debt centres. Coaches will be assigned to the client. They assess all the needs of the client, whether it is housing, food, credit or bank debt, or anything else. A plan is put into place to help the client with their bills and debts or other financial needs. CAP will help set up payment plans with lenders, IVA agreements and other solutions. Community Money Advice (CMA) and the Salvation Army partner together to help families on a low or medium income pay their debts. Advisers will be assigned to each client. Not only Salvation Army centres offer these debt schemes, only some do. While many assistance programmes can be provided, the two main ones are debt management plans (DMP) as well as DRO relief orders. The Salvation Army can also give out free food, hot meals, and other help to the family. Find debt help centres from Salvation Army
