SHAP housing and social services

Clients of the not-for-profit SHAP include people facing poverty and those that are struggling. The focus is on preventing homelessness and helping individuals receive the support then need. Everything from short term housing to resettlement schemes and more is provided. The charity will help the disadvantaged, residents with mental health issues, older and young people, and the homeless. Services are available in Merseyside and other towns.

Housing from SHAP

While short term accommodations are offered, the number of flats and homes available is very low. Some clients will need to be referred to other options in the area, such as social housing or properties that are designated for those faced with poverty.

Those applying for some type of accommodations from SHAP will have an interview done. As part of the application process, all available schemes will be reviewed by the charity. In some cases, the application will need to be deferred to a later date before a decision is made. A social worker will need proof of hardship and will make a final decision.

As part of the process, there are different social support programmes available from the organisation. There are some for paying a rental deposit and also to maintain long term tenancy. In some cases, advice on applying for housing benefits may be provided.

The number of homes is small, so a waiting list is usually used for any available accommodations in Merseyside. If a future property is suitable to the individual, then a tenancy will need to be signed with the landlord and also SHAP.

The tenant will also need to continue to work towards living independently, so assistance is provided for that as well. Support workers will work with the client to develop skills, offer help in managing finances, develop parenting skills, and provide referrals to other charity organisations in Merseyside.

The housing available for people and families on a low income is as follows. SHAP operates accommodation in St. Helens, Knowsley, and Liverpool. The main sites are.
