Hope Centre basic needs in Northampton

Many programmes are provided from Hope Centre for the vulnerable. The main services are run from the Day Centre, and this is where both the homeless and low income can stop by at. Volunteers at this location will offer both practical support and signpost the client to other agencies across Northamptonshire.

The first thing the centre will try to do is offer help for basic needs. This may be some of the following. Most of what is available depends on donations from the community.

Food and hot meals are provided. There is a Breakfast as well as a Lunch served as well on a daily basis. The food will be offered at a low cost, but people that stop by for advice can sometimes be given a voucher for a food bank. So some costs may be involved for this meal service.

Other basic needs are passed out from the Northampton Hope Centre. They will allow people to use an on site shelter, and then offer them clothing or personal hygiene items for free. These items can also be critical to finding a job in the area.

The location and its staff want people to overcome poverty and get off of benefits. So life skills workshops are held. These can give people the experience they need for long term stability, and include IT skills and access to computers. When it comes to employment, staff from the centre will help people with creating CVs, arrange computer support as well as job preparation.

Jobs may be arranged by Hope Enterprises. This allows people to gain skills and volunteer with local charities. People can even volunteer at local soup kitchens to help others in need. There are different activities held that can truly benefit the low income.

One service, the Cookery workshop, will help people gain skills by cooking meals and gaining that experience. They lean about food safety and gain other life-skills that are valuable to employers. This class is held just one day per week, so enroll early.

Health care is arranged too. Volunteers nurses may stop by Northampton Hope Centre and arrange for check ups or hygiene support, such as hair care or just even excessive groups. The Healthcare is very basic, but can improve a clients outlook on life as well when needed.

Many people need more assistance then Northampton Hope Centre can provide. For these individuals, they can meet one on one with a Hope Centre staff member for free advice. They will review various programmes and benefits that operate in the county, ranging from not-for-profits to local welfare schemes.

Based on the results of an assessment, there is signposting to specialist services or local schemes for everything from food to accessing private housing. Each programme in Northamptonshire will have its own independent application process in place.

The main location is at Oasis House, 35-37 Campbell Street, Northampton. This is where people can drop in at for advice and support. For more information, dial 0845 519 9371.
