Free heating system repairs, boilers, and insulation

There are several ways in which the vulnerable can get free heating systems or repairs to their home. There is assistance including boilers or free repairs to heating systems. Homes can get insulation or free energy efficiency measures. The schemes listed below are for the vulnerable, including pensioners, people with a disability, the poor, and others.

The government help is for home improvements. All of the schemes will keep the home or flat of a family warm and comfortable. They also save energy and can lower the cost of future bills.
One of the main schemes is Health Through Warmth. This is run by fuel providers including NPower and several charity organisations, including fuel poverty and National Health Services. The scheme is available to anyone who is vulnerable across the United Kingdom.

The goal of Health Through Warmth (HTW) is to keep a home warm and comfortable to live in. It is for those who live on a low income benefits and that who are also vulnerable. The different charity organisations and fuel suppliers, including NPower, provide funds to the scheme to pay for the updates to a home.

The number of households assisted each year will vary. But the aim is to support as many families as possible. There are usually about 5,000 to 10,000 vulnerable people assisted each year from Health Through Warmth. Many health and social care workers refer vulnerable people to the HTW scheme. The work done over the years includes:

Thousands of free boilers installed.
Cavity wall insulations are done in flats and homes.
About 2,000 heating systems have been installed each year for free.
Boilers have been repaired so the home can be heated.
Pay for the installation of a new gas central heating systems for homes.
Lofts insulations installations are done yearly.

Other free heating measures can be done by HTW. The charities that partner with NPower and other companies can take a wide variety of measures. All sorts of updates to help heat a home can be made, for free, for vulnerable homeowners. They will even arrange free heating oil for the boiler.

Health Through Warmth has two funds available for clients. One is for a Crisis, and one is Rapid Response. They can help address emergencies and make improvements or provide free equipment within 21 days at most. If a heating system needs to be repaired, it can be done so in an emergency.

Financial assistance is also provided by Health Through Warmth. The customer support team will offer families on a low income, and with limited savings, grants for paying their heating bills or getting oil. There is also assistance in applying for the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Apply to the HTW scheme at https://www.npower.com/health_through_warmth/referrals/. Or ring 0800 022 220 for more information.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) can provide free boilers or heating systems. The central government created this assistance programme, and it is aimed at both energy efficiency as well as helping low income families stay warm. All of the big 6 energy suppliers can link customers to it.

Installers will drop in at the home. If criteria are met, free boilers can be given to the family. Most of the assistance is for those people that live in fuel poverty. The installers will also repair any boilers as well as provide other support to the homeowner in the UK. Read more on the Energy Company Obligation scheme.

Grants can be provided from the Affordable Warmth Scheme. Most of the aid is for the disabled, families on a low income, pensioners, elderly, and the vulnerable. The grant will pay for either a boiler or extra insulation. In some limited cases, funds from the Affordable Warmth Scheme can pay for some of the heating bill that may be in arrears or cover the cost of a heating system.
