Louth and District Help for Homeless assistance for low income

Several services are provided by Louth and District Help for Homeless (LDHH), and the aim is to help the low income in the community as well as the currently homeless. Financial assistance from the charity can even prevent evictions from occurring in the first place. Any type of assistance provided will be limited and in small amounts, and the staff or CAB will perform an assessment of the applicants needs before issuing any type of support. But this charity is one other option for the vulnerable in Lincolnshire County to contact.

The is no permanent staff at the charity, so when seeking aid, messages will need to be left on their answering machine. It is also recommended that applicants be referred from the Citizens Advice Bureau, as that office can help ensure the client is eligible and offer other support.

Financial aid from grants or loans

First, in order to get any help from LDHH, a referral is needed from Citizens’ Advice Bureau or the ELDC Housing Advice. Those partners will need to refer an eligible individual to the programmes run by LDHH, and there are three main options.

Grants are available in small amounts, and one benefit of these is the money will not need to be repaid. While all funds are issued at the discretion of the staff at Louth and District Help for Homeless, there may be grants to pay for bus fares to local towns such as Lincoln, or a small amount for other emergency bills a family is faced with.

Any funds will be limited, and the aim is to help for a short term crisis. The grants are not meant for large expenses or for people that do not have the ability to live independently. If funding is not available, or an applicant is not eligible, then residents can get referrals to charity and government grants.

Loans are another option for residents in Lincolnshire. These are mostly aim at addressing housing problems, such as for people that need money for a deposit or even rent that needs to be paid in advance. The funds from the LDHH loan scheme can also be used to cover the fee for entering into the necessary tenancy agreement.

When money is issued, it will usually be interest free. Applicants will need to agree to an installment plan, and LDHH will try to ensure this amount is affordable. While terms can change, it may be around £25 per month, but this can vary. To learn more, drop in at Citizens’ Advice or call 07717 854889.

Food and household goods are provided from a scheme known as Community Larder. Louth and District Help for Homeless can provide non-perishable groceries, tins, canned items, and more. In addition, some low income families may be provided a voucher for a local food bank in Lincolnshire County, and this will allow people to get bread, fruits, milk, and more items.

The vouchers will enable clients or families in poverty to get emergency supplies of fresh food. There can also be household goods supplied, and this may be cooking equipment or furniture for a new home or flat. The elderly or disabled are a priority. More information or applications are available at Team Parish Outreach Worker at Trinity Centre, Eastgate, or leave a message at 07717 854889 for LDHH staff.

If someone is homeless or needs rent help, then the ELDC Housing Advice team at Manby is a place for referrals.
